Childrens Wear Project

15th February 2012

My current project is to design childrens wear for Size Small copenhagen which is a company in denmark who design and produce childrenswear. I will be designing both girls and boys clothing for Spring Summer 2013. I have started by researching into the Size Small brand, these are some of the garments and I have taken form the website.

This is the brand imformation I have also taken form the website:

A SizeSmall copenhagen philosophy

Sizesmall copenhagen children's clothing had a true size small
perspective on the world. It's all about fun, play, movement
and self-expression. It's hip and often colorful. Sizesmall copenhagen
is timeless Danish design with an edged
of wildness. The clothes are always made of the best quality materials.
Fabrics are souced from all over the world, from Japan to France and
the major part of cotton used in the collections are always organic.

I have come accross Pitti Immagine Bimbo which is a childrenswear magazine and website. I found this really usefull looking at the current trends for 2012 in order to give me an idea of childrens wear and what types of garments children wear.

This is a particular article i found on the website where a zoo has been created making the garments into animal shapes. I particularly like the colours aswell with the pinks for girls and orange and blue for boys, i also like the under water theme.

Style Piccoli's Zoo

A nursye rhyme by Giuseppe Scaraffia

A regular presence at Pitti Bimbo, Style Piccoli organizes events and special projects dedicated to helping adults learn more about the world of kids. This year, inside of the Main Pavilion, Style Piccoli will settle an exhibition focused on the enchanted and fantastic world of children: a nursey rhyme by Giuseppe Scaraffia will explain the seven paper-foldings, seven images of the Style Piccoli’s zoo. Still-life reproducing fantastic animal shapes with the collection of Spring/ Summer 2012 showcased in a creative and colourful way.

This is the Paul Smith Junior SS12 range. I think form looking at this range bright colours are definitley important for a childrens wear particularly a Spring Summer range.

Ive decided i want to make my own characters for my designs and after looking at children's wear and also the article on piccoli's Zoo I thought an under the sea theme would work well with the colour ways. These are some of the images which have given me inspiration:

I think a cartoon version of this octpus would work well on childrenswear and the bright orange colour will also work with the colour trend predictions.

This is an image of a pink jellyfish which would work well on the girls designs and i can use the pink colour throught the collection.

This is my moodbard I created with an under the sea theme.

These are the colours which I have chosen to use with the pale pin as the accent colour for girls and the orange as the accent colour for boys.  I want to use jelly fish, octupus and fish as characters on the childrenswear.
